Iran produces 11,000T of tea

Some 11,000 tons of dry tea has been produced in Iran’s northern provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran during the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), said Habib Jahansaz, Chairman of Iran's Tea Organization, Trend reports referring to ISNA.

According to Jahansaz, there are about 160 dry tea processing plants in the provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran.

Jahansaz added that tea workers have collected 49,000 tons of tea leaves worth 1.55 trillion rials (approx. $36 million) in the northern provinces during the past month, with 91 percent of it being 1st grade tea.

"Some 653 billion rials (approx. $15.5 million) have been paid to tea makers, and they are getting paid the remaining amount every week," he said.

Jahansaz noted that the price of 1st grade tea leaf is 32,700 rials (approx. $0.77) per 1 kg, and the price of 2nd grade tea leaf is 18,400 rials (approx. $0.44) per 1 kg.

In Iran, a number of agricultural products including wheat, rapeseed, rice and tea are purchased by the government from farmers.
