On October 29-30, 17 trains a day have passed through Dostyk and Alashankou stations, which are border stations between Kazakhstan and China, which is a record amount in the history of the border stations operation, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (Kazakhstan Railways).

The amount of mentioned trains passing through is a result of implemented measures by railway administrations of the two countries for increase of cargo turnover via these stations.

In September 2019, the agreement to receive and send 14 trains a day via broad gauge of Dostyk station was reached.

Following the end of first 10 months of 2019 the volume of cargo turnover via railway between these two stations amounted to 14.2 million tons, which is 13.4 percent more than the plan of Organization for Cooperation of Railways, and 23.8 percent more than during the same period of last year.

It is also forecast that due to the increased joint work of Kazakh and Chinese specialists, the volume of cargo turnover will amount to 16.5 million tons in 2019, which is 1.5 million tons more that the agreed plan and 2.5 million tons more than last year.

According to Kazakhstan’s Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov, China is traditionally one of the key Kazakh partners in foreign trade: the share of trade turnover accounts for 12 percent of the total Kazakh foreign trade.

Kazakh export to China amounted to 5.3 percent of the country's trade turnover this year, which is an increase of 39 percent.
