Uzbek government aims to expand country's agricultural sector

The Uzbek government is taking additional measures to expand agricultural production, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

Uzbekistan has adopted a presidential decree on additional measures to specialize the country's regions in agricultural production.

In 2020-2022, as an experiment, it is planned to outline 116,300 hectares of land in Jizzakh region for agricultural production.

According to the resolution, land areas will be allocated on a competitive basis as a priority to potential initiators, farms and other entities creating agricultural clusters. Plantations of export-oriented types of crops will be created in specialized areas.

So, 20 hectares of land area will be transferred to the Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable and Potato Crops at the expense of the territory of Koramozor in Zaamin district.

Project initiators will be allocated 513 hectares of inefficiently used irrigated land area located in Zafarabad district. The land will be provided on a competitive basis with the condition of organization of a livestock breeding complex, the message said.

Besides, large agrologistics centers will be established in Zaamin, Mirzachul and Pakhtakor districts of Jizzakh region.

The government instructed to start drilling work in 3Q2020 in order to drill artesian wells and use underground water for the development of horticulture and viticulture in the newly developed rain-fed areas in Bakhmal, Gallyaaral, Zaamin, Farish, Yangiabad districts of Jizzakh region, the message said.

According to the decree, seeds, seedlings and stockings, mineral fertilizers, chemical means of plant protection, modern energy-saving greenhouses and their components, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems and their components imported from abroad are exempt from customs duties for the period from 1 January 2021 tthrough 1 January 2023.

The Council of Farmers, farms and owners of farmlands in Jizzakh region will buy six drilling machines and will allocate six billion soum ($590,558) free of charge for the purpose of drilling artesian wells and using underground water, the message said.
