Iran seeks overseas cultivation of water-intensive crops

TEHRAN, Iran, June 14. Iran plans to grow water-intensive crops via overseas cultivation, said the Minister of Agriculture Javad Sadatinejad, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

He pointed out that the aim is to produce and export water-intensive crops overseas, in addition to domestic production of strategic products and crops that require less water.

According to the official, the budget law for the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2022) has assumed a tariff for the export of water-intensive crops.

In recent years, consecutive administrations have discussed the plans to lease land or buy stakes in overseas ventures in countries such as Kazakhstan, Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Azerbaijan, and Ghana.
