Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 17

By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

The fourth meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council will be held in Baku in 2018, a source in Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR told Trend Nov. 17.

“Preparations start for the organization of the next meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council. Work is underway to determine the list of invited individuals, the agenda, and the program of events. The date has not yet been approved, but it is planned that the meeting will be held in February 2018,” said the source.

The first meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council was held on Feb. 12, 2015, the second meeting – on Feb. 29, 2016, and the third meeting – on Feb. 23, 2017.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.

As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, the gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans Adriatic Pipeline.
