Indonesian company plans to export gasoline to Afghanistan from Uzbek oil refinery

The Indonesian company RT Trans Asia Resources intends to supply Afghanistan with up to a million tons of oil products from the Fergana Oil Refinery LLC since 2020, Trend reports via RIA Novosti.

Trans Asia Resources has signed an agreement with the Afghan authorities to supply up to one million tons of petroleum products, read the message. The document was signed at the first meeting of the Uzbek-Afghan Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on trade and economic cooperation in Tashkent.

Deliveries of petroleum products, in particular, gasoline and diesel fuel, may begin in 2020, after solid contracts are signed with Afghan commercial structures, read the message.

In the future, it is also planned to arrange deliveries to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier, a representative of the Afghan government reported on the margins of the first meeting of the IGC of the two countries that Afghanistan is going to buy up to 30,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per year in Uzbekistan. The possibility of concluding contracts for the supply of petroleum products to Afghanistan on tolling terms is also being worked out. An intergovernmental contract may be signed before the end of the year.

The Fergana Oil Refinery is one of the leading producers of fuel and lubricants in Central Asian region. The company was commissioned in 1959 and it produces today about 60 types of petroleum products. The design capacity of the processing plant is 5.5 million tons of oil per year.

In early April, the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to modernize the refinery by attracting direct investment from RT Trans Asia Resources.

The company will invest in the modernization of the plant more than $875 million by 2022.

It is planned to create a consortium of leading international companies for the further operation of the refinery. In the future, its state assets will be sold to Trans Asia Resources on the terms of the government of Uzbekistan.
