Gas extraction at the Absheron gas field is to be launched in 2021, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the public relations and events department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, told Trend.
He noted that the work on construction of the rig for field development was started this year.
"The rig will be shipped to Oil Rocks and will then installed at the destination," Ahmadov said.
He also added that the gas is to be shipped to the land via pipelines connecting the Oil Rocks to the receiving terminal on land.
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Total signed a framework agreement in 2016 on the main contractual and commercial principles regulating the first phase of development of the Absheron field.
Absheron’s reserves are estimated at 326 billion cubic meters of gas and 108 million tons of condensate, according to TOTAL company's specialists.
