By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Reducing CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions as part of expanding the use of renewable energy sources for electricity production will significantly improve the environmental image of Azerbaijan, Deputy Director of the International Institute for Energy Policy and Diplomacy of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, an expert of the Institute’s Center for Sustainable Development Igbal Guliyev told Trend.

The expert noted that significant structural changes are taking place in the fuel and energy complex associated with the development of non-oil, ‘green’ energy.

“The period of decline in revenues from the export of hydrocarbons created additional preconditions for prioritizing the aspects of renewable energy, which in the future will contribute to the formation of additional volumes of hydrocarbon exports,” Guliyev said.

According to the expert, the reduction of CO2 emissions will attract investors to new energy projects, which will substantially increase the investment potential of the national fuel and energy complex.

“According to the head of the Azerbaijani state, national priorities for socio-economic development for the coming decade include the development of competitive human capital and the space of modern innovations, the return to the territories of Azerbaijan previously liberated from Armenian occupation, as well as the formation of a clean environment,” Guliyev said.
