By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The number of passengers at the airports of Tbilisi and Batumi fell by 10 percent, said Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Akaki Sagirashvili, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

According to him, Russia's ban on direct flights between Russia and Georgia has affected the Georgian air transportation market.

“In July, the total passenger fare at these two airports was supposed to reach 590,000 instead of the actual figure of 485,000,” Sagirashvili added.

In the meantime, a significant growth in passenger air traffic was observed in Georgia in January-June 2019. All five Georgian airports served 2.48 million passengers, which is 18 percent more than in the same period last year (2.10 million passengers).

“Unfortunately, instead of supporting this momentum, we have seen a sharp decline since July,” Sagirashvili added. In his words, in July, the growth rate at all national airports dropped by 12 percent, and this trend continues.
