BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. In total, 82,186 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan from January through August 2023, which is 99.4 percent higher than in the same period of 2022 (41,217), Trend reports.
According to the State Agency of Azerbaijan for Tourism, the number of tourists from Kazakhstan amounted to 35,471 people (an increase of 85 percent over the year), Uzbekistan 24,409 (an increase of 77 percent over the year), Turkmenistan 16,163 (an increase of 3.22 times over the year), Kyrgyzstan 3,241 (an increase of 77 percent), and Tajikistan 2,902 (an increase of 2.19 times over the year).
In general, 411,141 people from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan from 2017 through 2022 (from Kazakhstan: 167,052, Turkmenistan: 119,201, Uzbekistan: 96,278, Kyrgyzstan: 15,467, and Tajikistan: 13,143).
Last year, over 1.6 million foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan in general, which is more than two times higher than in 2021 (790,062).
As many as 73,823 tourists from Central Asian countries visited Azerbaijan in 2022, which is 4.75 times more than in 2021 (15,516).
