Container turnover increases in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 17

The total number of containers handled by the ports of Georgia in January 2020 amounted to 56,409 TEU, Trend reports citing data from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

As reported, this is 24.3 percent more compared to January 2019.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the number of containers shipped by rail in January 2020 amounted to 6,441 TEU, which is 28.5 percent more than in the same period in 2019.

Georgian cargo turnover amounted to 42.3 million tons in 2019 which is 1.2 million tons more compared to 2018, shows the data from the Ministry of Economy.

The volume of cargo processed at Georgian sea ports and sea terminals amounted to 17.2 million tons, which is 2.1 million tons more compared to 2018.

Meanwhile, 31.4 million tons of cargo was transported by the railway.

Cargo transported by vehicles decreased from 25.5 million tons to 24.9 million tons.

In total, the number of passenger transportation by all kinds of transport was 412.2 million which is 11 million more than in 2018. Out of this number, 404 million passengers were transported by the road transport, while 5.2 million passengers were transported by the civil aviation. Meanwhile, 3 million passengers were transported by railways.
