BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.25
By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:
The cargo traffic via the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) international transport corridor’s Azerbaijani section grew mainly due to the ongoing transit of goods through the territory of Azerbaijan, TRACECA Permanent Representative (National Secretary) Rufat Bayramov told Trend this week.
According to Bayramov, the growth is also due to the adopted restrictions in the countries of Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, where the entry of drivers and trucks is prohibited, in connection with which most of the cargo is transported via the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor in transit through Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
Cargo transportation via the Azerbaijani section of TRACECA from January through February 2021 exceeded 6.6 million tons.
Besides, this week the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia (Rosaviatsia) has issued permits for flights from Russia to Azerbaijan and a number of other countries to over 15 Russian airlines.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasted the financial losses of the world's airlines by almost $50 billion.
According to the association, losses of the world’s airlines in 2021 will make up almost 18.5 percent, or $47.7 billion.
Furthermore, the general director of the Baku port Taleh Ziyadov said this week that the Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC can be transferred to private management.
Another important event of the outgoing week was the opening of a joint venture of commercial and specialized vehicles between Russia’s GAZ Group and Azermash Park LLC in Azerbaijan. The new production facility is designed to produce 1,500 trucks and special-purpose vehicles. It’s planned to use components of Azerbaijani origin for the production of cars in the future.
Along with the above, in early 2021, Azermash Park LLC exported two cars to Ukraine for undergoing certification. Within the operation, it’s planned to export 400 cars in the second half of 2021.
