BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. Last week Azerbaijan has informed that it's ready to continue creating all conditions so that partners of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can use its transit potential, Trend reports.
Azerbaijan is an important link in a number of projects such as international transport North-South and East-West corridors, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and others routes. Azerbaijan will continue to invest in modernization of the transport infrastructure for implementation of projects to create international transport and logistics corridors.
Furthermore, last week it became known that Alliance Logistics Azerbaijani cargo transportation company will reduce transit tariffs for container transport. In addition, the company purchased another 100 railway cars, including refrigerated ones. Delivery of the first 50 cars withing the framework of this deal is expected by the end of 2022, the rest - in early 2023. This deal will allow Alliance Logistics to transport Azerbaijani products to the markets for Russia and some other countries and refrigerated wagons will allow fast and high-quality transportation of Azerbaijani goods up to the Moscow and Selyatino stations.
Also, Azerbaijan and Georgia discussed the launch of container transportation between Poti and Batumi seaports in Georgia and Alat seaport in Azerbaijan's Baku, coordination of schedules and unification of tariffs. Within the framework of trilateral meeting of Ministers of Transport of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia, issues of wider use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route's potential, increasing the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and the formation of a unified tariff policy for transit cargo transportation were discussed.
Last week it became known that the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission (PS IGC) TRACECA launched a pilot project on the application of the Global Transit Document (GTrD) on two routes: Azerbaijan - Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Tajikistan and Tajikistan - Uzbekistan - Kazakhstan- Azerbaijan. The project will contribute to further simplification of the terms of trade and cargo transportation, especially for countries without direct access to the sea.
Meanwhile it was noted that Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are aimed to strengthen transport and logistics ties, and the main task is to increase mutual trade turnover. In order to strengthen cooperation in the transport sector, relevant memorandums were signed between Azerbaijani and Kazakh companies. It's also planned to expand the synergy of Kazakhstan's Aktau and Azerbaijan's Baku seaports.
Besides, the first stage of reconstruction of the Yarag-Kazmalyar border checkpoint on the border of Azerbaijan and Russia is planned to be completed by the end of 2022. Work on the first stage of reconstruction of this checkpoint in Dagestan has been completed by 70 percent. Commissioning works are underway. It was reported that as part of the North-South transport corridor this checkpoint is of great strategic importance in ensuring the transit, export and import of goods from Russia to Azerbaijan and vice versa.
