Iran’s Jolfa border terminal sees uptick in truck traffic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. The number of trucks crossing through Iran’s Jolfa border terminal in the East Azerbaijan Province increased by 8 percent, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2023), compared to the same period in the last year, Director General of East-Azerbaijan Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, Orujali Alizadeh said, Trend reports.

According to Alizadeh, in total, 16,646 trucks crossed through the Jolfa border terminal in two months. Of these, 6,246 were Iranian trucks, and 10,400 were trucks from other countries.

The director general also said that 179,000 tons of non-oil products were exported and imported through the Jolfa border terminal within the mentioned period.

“At the same time, 118,500 tons of cargo were transited via the terminal for 2 months,” he added.

Within 2 months, 12,800 people crossed the Jolfa border terminal in two months, the official noted.

Meanwhile, over 97,000 trucks crossed through the Jolfa border terminal in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). Approximately 1.05 million tons of non-oil products were exported and imported, as well as more than 640,000 tons of cargo were transited via the terminal during the last year.

The Jolfa border terminal is located on the border with Iran and Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
