The Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) has no similarities with the Soviet Union, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during a meeting with reporters in Acorda (Kazakh president's residence).
Nazarbayev said signing of the Treaty on the EAU in Astana in May 2014 was his idea put forward 20 years ago in Moscow State University.
"Today the EAU faces a serious risk, honestly, due to the crises," he said, adding that the speculations about losing independence, reestablishment of the USSR are complete nonsense.
"Those who want to create the USSR have no brain at all," the president said.
"All this have been left in the past," he said. "The Marxist-Leninist ideology, the Communist Party, the single economic entity no longer exists."
