Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev has voiced possibility of further reducing the uranium production in the country.

"Kazakhstan, as promised, reduced uranium production by 10% by the end of the year," Bozumbayev said talking to Kazinform on the sidelines of the 18th Forum of Nuclear Cooperation in Asia at the ministerial level.

As of nine months of 2017, the decline in production is slightly more than 10%, he added.

"Next year we'll look at the conjuncture. You can always increase [the output], we have one of the most effective technologies for uranium mining and the figure maybe increased very fast. But we, as responsible big producers, should keep track of the conjuncture, because it is easy to drop prices and harm themselves and partners. Therefore, we must be careful, "said Bozumbaev.

In early 2017, the country made a decision to reduce uranium due to a drop in world uranium prices by 47 percent.

Data of the Energy Ministry shows that the volume of uranium production last year was 24,600 tons (102.5 compared to the plan of 2016, 103.7% - 2015).

The plan for uranium production in 2017 was 22.100 tons.
