BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. Kazakhstan's Kazygurt district in Turkestan is set to embark on a sustainable energy initiative with the construction of a 50 MW solar power plant, the district's governor, Azizkhan Ismailov said, Trend reports.
The district has plans to execute 12 new projects worth 26.7 billion Kazakh tenge ($59.5 million). Among them is the construction of a solar power plant with a total capacity of 50 MW in the rural area of Shanak, with an estimated cost of 23.8 billion Kazakh tenge ($53 million). The land issue has been fully resolved, and a memorandum with investors has been prepared.
Furthermore, the construction of a 1.3 MW hydroelectric power station is in progress at the Yntymak production facility. It is scheduled to be commissioned by September of this year.
Kazakhstan has set an ambitious goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. This commitment aligns with the global efforts to mitigate climate change and transition towards a sustainable future. Therefore, the country is actively implementing projects in the field of renewable energy sources.
