BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 13. Cereal crops (excluding legumes, rice, and buckwheat) were harvested from an area of 579,500 hectares in Kyrgyzstan as of October 23, 2023, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period of 2022, Trend reports.
Data from the National Statistical Committee of the country shows that 1.6 million tons of grain were processed as of the mentioned date, which is 15 percent less than in the same period last year. The decrease in processing volumes was due to a 28 percent reduction in the harvest of cereal crops compared to the corresponding date last year.
Specifically, due to abnormally high temperatures in the summer of this year, the wheat harvest decreased by 25.8 percent compared to the previous year, and barley by 29.5 percent, according to the committee.
In addition to this, the harvesting areas of legumes, oilseeds, and cotton also decreased. The area under leguminous crops was 52,900 hectares as of October 23, 2023, which was 7.4 percent less than the same date last year. The area under oilseeds was 14,700 hectares, or 17.2 percent less, and cotton was 17,500 hectares, or 9.4 percent less.
In comparison with the same date last year, there was an increase in the sugar beet harvest by 46.5 percent, tobacco by 18.6 percent, grain maze by 6.7 percent, vegetables by 4.6 percent, and melon crops by 3.6 percent.
