DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 15. A total of 534,190 tons of potatoes have been harvested in Tajikistan's Sughd region as of November 1, 2023, which is an increase of 38,649 tons compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
This information was disclosed during an agricultural exhibition in the Sughd region, attended by Tajikistan's President, Emomali Rahmon.
It was noted that the total area dedicated to potato cultivation in the region has reached 25,712 hectares in 2023, which is an increase of 1,496 hectares compared to the previous year.
The breakdown of potato cultivation areas across the region is as follows: Devashtich district - 7,502 hectares, Pendzhikent region- 4,333 hectares, Istaravshan city - 3,538 hectares, Gorno-Matchinsky Region - 3,042 hectares, Shakhristan district- 2,150 hectares, Ayni district - 1,087 hectares, and Isfara city- 1,138 hectares. Potato types like "Picasso," "Cardinal," "Tajikistan" are mostly cultivated in Sughd.
On November 14, the President of Tajikistan arrived in Sughd. His visit aims to assess the region's economic and social situation, inaugurate various projects, and engage with the local residents. Rahmon plans to stay in the region for three days, where he will celebrate President's Day on November 16.
