A population and housing census which has been conducted since December 15, 2012, is now complete in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen State Statistics Committee said today.
Along with the population census, a housing census was conducted. Preliminary results will be announced in July 2013, with the final at the beginning of 2014.
The results of the census offers an opportunity to obtain a wide range of indices characterising people by urban and rural areas, marital and family status, ethnic composition, degree of language proficiency, the number and size of households, sources of livelihood and housing conditions.
The census was conducted under UN initiatives on census in UN member states from 2005 to 2014. The previous census was carried out in Turkmenistan in 1995.
The Turkmen Statistics Committee uses Geographic Information System technology applied in international practice to place the necessary statistics information on an electronic map.
