Uzbekistan, together with the South Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), implemented a $7 million project on installing Smart Water measuring and control devices at facilities of the irrigation system with the introduction of digital technologies in the process of water metering and automation of water management processes at 100 facilities until 2030, Trend reports citing UzA.uz.
The Concept for the Development of the Water Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030 in order to effectively manage water resources, their rational use and planning further work in this area has been approved.
The concept identified 11 priority areas, including improving the water management system, introducing Smart Water technology and similar digital technologies into water use and keeping records of water consumption.
Smart Water devices were installed at 61 water bodies, allowing online monitoring of water resources, 15 small weather stations for online weather monitoring, as well as video surveillance cameras for visual monitoring of the situation on the ground.
In collaboration with local manufacturing facilities, Smart Water devices have been installed at 87 water facilities across Uzbekistan, enabling online monitoring of water resources.

In addition, work is underway to digitize the reclamation system. In particular, 66 reclamation wells equipped with an automatic Diver system in the Khorezm region, 12 wells in Karakalpakstan Republic and 25 wells in the Bukhara region are involved. As a result, it became possible to observe the level of groundwater and its mineralization.
Currently, meters are installed at all pumping stations and irrigation wells of the system for online monitoring of energy consumption. Thus, 650 “smart” meters have already been installed in the Bukhara region, 269 in the Samarkand region and 59 in the Jizzakh region.
“The total area covered by water-saving technologies in Uzbekistan amounts to seven percent of all irrigated land,” the head of the Information-Analytical and Resource Center of the Ministry of Agriculture Rustam Karshiev said.
According to experts, work is consistently continuing to bring the area covered by water-saving technologies to two million hectares, including drip irrigation technology - up to 600,000 hectares.
