BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 3

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

A tender will be held to determine the company that will reconstruct the Sardoba reservoir in Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Construction of Uzbekistan.

According to the information, documents related to the reconstruction and restoration of the Sardoba reservoir will be put up for tender after an international examination.

Minister of Construction of Uzbekistan Batyr Zakirov said that the tender will be held on a transparent basis.

“The date of the beginning of reconstruction is unknown since it will take a long time to rebuild the dam,” he said.

According to the decree developed on the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers, TupalangsuvGESqurilish LLC and Uzbekistan Railways are responsible for repairing and compensating the damage caused by the dam.

Zakirov also noted that the reconstruction of the dam is carried out both at the expense of the project and with the financing of organizations.

“The state budget is not affected in this case,” he noted.

The minister also said that it is not yet known whether TupalangsuvHESqurilish will take part in the tender.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan has attracted specialists from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering to study the current state of the Sardoba reservoir and develop a project for its reconstruction.

Currently, Russian experts together with representatives of the State Design Research Institute for Engineering Surveys in Construction, Geoinformatics and Urban Planning Cadastre are carrying out engineering and survey work at the facility.

After heavy rain and stormy winds on the morning of May 1, 2020, the dam of the Sardoba reservoir broke through in the Syrdarya region. As a result, thousands of homes in several regions of Uzbekistan were washed away and at least six people died. The Maktaaral district of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan was badly damaged. Five villages were flooded. A man-made emergency was declared. The flood led to the evacuation of 31,600 people in the area. The water washed away almost 900 houses and flooded 5,000 hectares of farmland.
