Top Advisor: Iran oil cut punishes European countries

Special Advisor to Supreme Leader Aytollah Khamenei on International Relations Ali Akbar Velayati said on Thursday Iran oil cut punishes European countries, IRNA reported.

Velayati spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the Second Forum of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Cultural Elites in Tehran.

He said that the oil sanctions cannot help Europeans and do not have any effects on Iran oil sales because Iranian oil always has its own customers.

Commenting on Oil Ministry's oil cut to Britain and France, he said it was a true and timely move to penalize them, a reaction to their move to impose oil embargo on Iran.

Iran banned crude oil supply to France and the UK 5 months before the European Union's last oil embargo resolution over Iran comes into force.

The EU foreign ministers agreed in January to ban oil imports from Iran starting July 1, while Iran claimed to have other customers to sell its oil to.
