Iran has proposed an interactive approach in relations with neighboring countries, country's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said today during the conference of the Caspian littoral States in Mazandaran.

Iran has proposed an interactive approach in relations with neighboring countries, country's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said today during the conference of the Caspian littoral States in Mazandaran.

The conference kicked off earlier today.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, and other members of the government and parliament are participating in the conference.

Regarding the regulatory issues related to the Caspian Sea, Salehi said the the legal status of the sea needs to be regulated, so there would not be any uncertainty regarding this.

"To regulate relations between Iran and its neighbors, we need political, economic principles," Salehi said. "In this regard, an interactive approach needs to be adopted, and further strenghened."

He also said that Iran plans to launch flights from its northern provinces to the neighboring Caspian Sea countries.

The littoral states (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran) signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea in November 2003.
