Iran wants a rapid resolution to the nuclear issue within the framework of international norms and expects new steps from Russia in this direction, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reported.
"Concerning the Iranian nuclear problem, we want a rapid resolution of this problem within the framework of international norms," the Iranian President said.
"Russia took important steps in this sphere before. Now there is a better opportunity for new steps from your side," the Iranian President stressed.
Regarding the settlement of the Syrian issue, the Iranian President stressed that Russia's initiative on transferring chemical weapon in Syria under international control is encouraging, that a new war in the region can be avoided.
"Russia's initiative on Syria, as well as from Syrian government gave us hope that we can avoid new war in the region," Rouhani said.
