According to Ramaz Sakvarelidze, Political Scientist, if Russia recognizes independence of South Ossetian and Abkhazia it will lose as Russia membership regions will also be able to make the similar demand.
Sakvarelidze told Prime-News that the international community would not back independence of the self-recognized republics, reported PNA.
"If Russia recognizes independence of South Ossetian and Abkhazia Russia will lose the image it has to Europe and will confirm that it does not take West into consideration", the political scientist pointed out.
The Russian State Duma has unanimously recognized (with 130 votes) independence of self -recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia at the special session on August 25.
