Georgia, Tbilisi, July 13 / Trend, N. Kirtzkhalia /
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region governor Tengiz Gunava will spend the next four years in prison. The decision was made by the Tbilisi City Court on Friday, which pleaded the gubernator guilty upon the charges made against him.
Gunava was accused of injuring his driver and misappropriating petrol worth 49,000 lari ( 1 USD= 1.65 lari) from the Interior Ministry.
It should be stressed that he was also accused of illegal weapon and drugs carrying. Nevertheless, these charges were removed later, as the investigation proved that the police planted weapons and drugs on him.
It should be stressed that Gunava was free as the court released him on bail.
Gunava's lawyer said that the Court's decision is unfounded and it will be appealed in the Court of Appeal.
