Suspected militants gunned down a special police officer and an Indian army trooper, and injured another one in two separate incidents in India-controlled Kashmir on Sunday, police said, Xinhua reported.

According to the details provided by police, militants fired upon a police officer in Sopore, 50 km north of Srinagar, the summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir, in a bus yard. The militants fled the spot after the incident.  "The special police official posted in police station Sopore was on his duty in the marketplace, when unidentified gunmen fired upon him. He succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital,"Viplav Kumar, senior superintendent of police posted in Baramulla, told Xinhua.

In another incident in the Rajward forests of Handwara, 100 km north of Srinagar, a patrol party of Indian army troopers was ambushed by the militants, police said.

During the gunfight, one Indian army trooper was killed and another trooper sustained injuries.

"The army was patrolling the jungles, when it came under the fire. One soldier was killed and another one was injured," said a police officer posted in the district.

The army has cordoned off the entire area and launched a search operation. However, militants are believed to have managed to escape.
