A house fire in Daxing District in the south of Beijing has killed 19 people and left eight injured, Sputnik reported, citing local media.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the fire has already been extinguished and the injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
The fire was reported at about 6 p.m. on Saturday local time (10:00 a.m. GMT) and was put out three hours later.
The police have reportedly detained suspects and the city will set up a commission to investigate the incident.
According to the China Central Television, Chinese capital's Communist Party chief Cai Qi and Acting Mayor Chen Jining have arrived on the scene.
The exact location of the fire is unclear, but the mayor has ordered to shut down all industrial facilities in the area and to put an end to unauthorized businesses.
Meanwhile, Cai has demanded that the authorities check all nearby settlements and look for what could have caused the incident.
