After a nine-year break, Tbilisi hosted a meeting of the Georgian-Uzbek intergovernmental commission.
The main areas of economic cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan, including those in the trade and economic sphere are transport, tourism, energy, and agriculture. Small and medium-sized businesses as well as investments were discussed at the committee meeting, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia told Trend on Wednesday.
The Georgian side at the meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mikheil Janelidze and for Uzbekistan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Akmal Kamalov.
Following the meeting, a protocol was signed.
Tbilisi and Tashkent have pinned their hopes on bilateral investment, Janelidze told Trend on Wednesday.
"Special attention was paid to the transit of Uzbek goods and raw materials to Europe via Georgia, as we believe that this is a very promising area of our cooperation," he said.
The deputy minister expressed confidence that the resumption of the work of the intergovernmental commission will further develop bilateral relations.
Earlier, Uzbekistan used the transit through Georgia for the supply of its oil and cotton to Europe. In recent years, these supplies were reduced.
