French Total, which is Europe's third-largest energy company, seeks to expand its presence in Azerbaijan, Total E&P Azerbaijan general manager Christian Giudicelli said in an interview with Bloomberg.
At present, Total along with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and France's GDF Suez SA explores Absheron gas field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
"We are interested in growing in Azerbaijan. We can offer our experience and knowledge in developing other prospective structures in Azerbaijan," he said.
In September 2012, Azerbaijan announced about discovery of large gas reserves on the Absheron field.
The field's potential reserves hit 350 billion cubic meters of gas and 45 million ton of condensate.
"Our initial estimate of Absheron's reserves is several trillion cubic feet of gas. The range of the evaluation is still large because we have only one well at the moment," Giudicelli said.
According to Giudicelli, production on the Absheron field may start somewhere in the 2020s.
