China’s MingYuan Silu Industry company has started building a plant costing $109.7 million to produce float glass in Uzbekistan, the Uzqurilishmateriallari Joint-Stock Company (Uzbek Building Materials Company) told Trend.

The plant with the project capacity of 24 million square meters of glass per year is being built in the Jizzakh free economic zone, the company’s representative said. The Chinese company will finance the project, which is being carried out by a locally registered wholly owned subsidiary.

It is expected to fully launch the enterprise in the end of 2019. In the long term, China’s MingYuan Silu Industry considers expanding production capacities and creating a regional center for the sale of architectural glass on the basis of the plant.

Uzbekistan is a major producer of soda ash, which is one of the main components for the manufacture of glass.
