The president of Georgia is visiting the United States. Mikheil Saakashvili has already conducted a meeting with one of the candidates in the presidential election of 2016 Senator Marco Rubio, reported the Administration of the president of Georgia.
During the meeting the sides discussed Georgia's place in the political process and the bilateral relations in the framework of the Charter of the geopolitical cooperation.
Rubio and Saakashvili stressed the importance of the continuation of democratic processes in Georgia and its aspirations to NATO, as well as the support of USA to Georgia along the way. At the meeting it was stressed once again that Georgia will become a NATO member.
Rubio noted that Georgia has made "significant progress" in this way and in the conditions of new government this trend should continue. He once again supported Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Senator thanked Georgia for its participation in NATO operations in Afghanistan, stressing that the United States appreciates the support of Georgia in the fight against international terrorism.
The President of Georgia will hold a series of meetings with US congressmen and senators in Washington and New York.
