Turkmenistan’s neutrality status is positive factor of political climate in Central Asia: Solana

Turkmenistan's neutrality status is a positive factor of political climate in Central Asia, EU High Commissioner for foriegn policy and security Javier Solana said in a telephone talk with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.

The Caspian littoral country will celebrate Neutrality Day on Dec. 12.

Solana, who initiated the talks, also voiced his interests in establishing close contacts, particularly, under the long-term strategy on EU cooperation with Central Asia, the governmental press service said.

The sides discussed opportunities for further strengthening and intensifying mutually profitable cooperation in all basic directions. It was dealt with expanding energy, trade and economic cooperation, education and culture.

The talks focused on prospects of common objectives and tasks, intended to ensure peace and global security.

It first of all concerns consolidation of efforts in fighting with drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism.

Berdimuhammedov voiced his confidence that following the Lisbon treatywhich is intended to lay foundation for functioning of the EU in the subsequent years, cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU will continue successfully and enter a new stage of development.
