Iranian, Turkish musicians to show joint program in US

World-renowned Iranian musician and Kamancheh virtuoso Keyhan Kalhor along with a Turkish artist is slated to perform at the New York's annual world music festival, Press TV reported.

Kalhor and the Turkish veteran Baglama player Erdal Erzincan are to present their programs at the New York's GlobalFest that will be held at the city's Marlin Room on January 13, 2013.

Born in 1963, Kalhor is known for his brilliant performances on the traditional instrument of Kamancheh and creating a unique mixture of classical Persian music with folk tunes of the Kurdistan region.

Kalhor has composed and performed with Indian sitar player Shujaat Husain Khan and Indian Tabla player Swapan Chaudhuri, with whom he formed Ghazal ensemble.

He also performed at the 2012 Tanglewood Music Festival in the United States as a member of the Silk Road Ensemble which is composed of internationally-renowned musicians, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers from over 20 countries.

Kalhor also presented a joint program with a number of world-class Asian musicians at BT River of Music in the British capital of London.

The annual GlobalFest will showcase its 10th edition's programs with performance of 11 artists from eight countries.
