The Hamas movement opposes the resumption of the peace negotiation between Israel and the Palestinians because it undermines the Palestinian cause, a Hamas spokesman said Tuesday, dpa reported.
Sami Abu Zuhri, the movement's spokesman in Gaza, told dpa that the decision of President Mahmoud Abbas to resume the talks with Israel was an "unaccepted unilateral decision."
"Hamas backs a national strategy instead that is agreed upon by all the Palestinian powers and factions and all of us are committed to it," said Abu Zuhri, adding "the absurd talks only serves the occupation's interests."
Hamas organized a demonstration Tuesday in northern Gaza Strip, where hundreds of Hamas supporters chanted slogans against Abbas and against the resumption of the negotiations.
