Four people were dead and 12 injured Wednesday after a passenger jet crashed during landing near the Ukrainian city of Donetsk, according to government officials cited in local media.

Two others were listed as missing from the South Airlines flight, which had departed earlier from the Black Sea resort of Odessa with 45 people on board, DPA reported.

The Antonov An-24 plane overshot the runway and broke up during a landing attempt. Many of the passengers were travelling to the Ukrainian city, 700 kilometres south-east of the capital Kiev, for a Champions League football game between Schakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund.
