Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II received the Vatican foreign minister Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See Archbishop Dominique Mambertiin his residence. This visit continues the age-old ties between Georgia and the Holy See, the patriarch said.
"We are glad that you had the opportunity to come to Georgia. We are closely monitoring the situation that is happening in the Catholic world, as well as taking part in a dialogue with the Catholic Church. We are pleased that the historical relationships, existing between Georgia and Rome for centuries, continue. I would like to recall the words of John Paul II that our churches are the brothers founded by Peter and Andrew," Ilia II said.
The minister of foreign affairs of the Vatican noted that it was a great honor for him to meet with Catholicos Patriarch of all Georgia.
"It is also a great honor for me to convey the heartwarming greetings from the Pope to you. I'm glad you remembered John Paul II and his visit to Georgia, and I'm also glad that you emphasized the friendly and fraternal relations between our churches. My visit is another confirmation of this," Dominique Mamberti said.
