By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

The Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) is preparing proposals on 22 areas of activity of the National Contact Points (NCP) in cooperation with the EU framework programs, director of the Regional Information Technologies Academy (RITA) Tofig Babayev told Trend on March 12.

"The European Commission presented its recommendations to all countries participating in the framework programs ("Horizon- 2020") - maximum 22 national coordinators ( one coordinator from NCP and 21 coordinators - in various areas ( ICT , transport, environment and so on)," he said.

The proposals on candidates of the national coordinators are being prepared by the academy together with the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. A procedure for considering possible candidates is expected before the end of March 2014.

"The European Commission organizes numerous information days in various areas within the Horizon- 2020 project," he said. "NCP ICT, supervised by the Idealist project, supported by the European Commission is the most experienced network. Over 85 national coordinators and more than 65 countries operating actively in the promotion of projects in the field of information and communication technologies are presented in this project.

The academy together with the Idealist project network will organize a two-day training on the Horizon- 2020 project in Baku on April 9-10. Azerbaijani scholars' opportunity for taking part in these projects will be discussed there. Specialists from Norway, Lithuania, Hungary, Greece and Georgia will attend the training. These experts have more than 15 years of experience in the projects of the European Commission.

"The experts will take part in the presentations, preliminary evaluate the projects of Azerbaijani scholars and give their recommendations," he said. "An objective of the two-day training is to assist in the creation of a consortium for future project ideas offered by Azerbaijani scholars. The formation of a consortium promotes delivering Azerbaijani scholars' scientific developments on the world market."

The results of forming a consortium of Azerbaijani and European research institutes for further cooperation as part of joint ICT projects will be announced in April, RITA director said earlier.
