New Caucasus Rapporteur Should Struggle for Democracy and High Standard of Living for Region’s Residents – PACE Rapporteur

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K. Ramazanova / The new rapporteur appointed to PACE should struggle for democracy and for a high standard of living for residents of the South Caucasus region, says Leo Platvoet, the PACE rapporteur on missing persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

Platvoet would not fulfill his responsibilities to the representative of the Council of Europe after the session scheduled for October. Presently, Platvoet is operating through a consulting organization in the Netherlands. The former rapporteur said he was planning to take part in one of the programs of the European Commission regarding Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the South Caucasus.

Platvoet was appointed as a rapporteur during a meeting of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees, and Populations in Paris on 8 December 2005.
