Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 February / corr. Trend S. Agayeva/ Azerbaijan will close its Baku-Kabul flight.
" Due to security purposes, Azerbaijani Airways State Concern will close all Baku-Kabul-Baku flights from 24 February," the State Concern said to Trend on 15 February.
Afghanistan is not able to provide security for the flights, therefore AZAL is obliged to have them closed, the State Concern said. The flights will only be restored once their security is provided, AZAL said.
Baku-Kabul-Baku flights were established in summer 2006 due to an increase in the demand from specialists required for the restoration of Afghanistan who flew to Kabul via Baku. The flights were carried out three times weekly using TU-154 planes.
The closing down of the Baku-Kabul flight will also put an end to illegal migration from Afghanistan to another country via Azerbaijan. According to official statistics, Afghans make up the majority. The main cause of migration to Azerbaijan is the labour market and the favourable geographical position of the country.
