The relations between Turkmenistan and European community are "experiencing a qualitatively new stage", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its statement in anticipation of the visit of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso to Ashgabat.
According to the statement, the official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Brussels in November 2007 gave dynamism of the further expansion of relations. Then Ashgabat demonstrated the "political will and desire of the Turkmen leadership to intensification of such a strategically important area of foreign policy as the European vector".
