The Azerbaijani Embassy in Kazakhstan organized an official banquet in Astana dedicated to May 28 - the Republic Day, the embassy said.

Deputy Minister of Oil and Gas Lyazzat Kiinov attended the event from the Kazakh side.

The national anthems of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were performed at the beginning of the event.

The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was the first democratic Muslim state, established 93 years ago in the East, ambassador Zakir Hashimov said. He spoke about the invaluable merits of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the restoration and consolidation of independence, the development of Azerbaijan, as well as strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan . He stressed that as a result of measures undertaken in the economic sphere under the leadership of President Aliyev, our country has escaped the global economic crisis and achieved economic success even in 2010.

Then the ambassador spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. He stressed that a fair solution to this conflict is an important issue for Azerbaijan. He added that this conflict can be resolved only within the territorial integrity of the country, on the basis of norms and principles of international law.

The relations between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have deep roots, he said. He stressed the merits of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to develop and strengthen ties between the two peoples. He added that Azerbaijan is of great importance for Kazakhstan. Both countries successfully participate in major energy projects.

The students of the Kazakh University of Arts performed music by the great Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev.
