The Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis serves as testimony to the successful implementation of national leader Heydar Aliyev's ideas of Azerbaijanism, Azerbaijani First Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ziyafat Askerov said at the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis.
"Azerbaijan has made great strides in establishing democratic traditions, protecting rights and freedoms, ensuring social welfare, and creating civic solidarity," Askerov said.
He said the Azerbaijani youth, living and studying in different countries, try to worthy represent his country.
The congress is attended by representatives of 43 countries, including representatives of the Jewish, Russian peoples, the Akhiska Turks, as well as other nations, Askerov said.
The coincidence of the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis with the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence more enriches social and political nature of the event, Askerov said.
"The Second Congress of World Azerbaijanis led by President Ilham Aliyev in March 2006, became a new stage in the history of the Diaspora," he said.
The First Congress of World Azerbaijanis was held in 2001. The congress is held every five years.
Some 1,272 persons are confirmed to participate at the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis.
