The Azerbaijani society has turned its back on the opposition, Deputy Chairman, Executive Secretary of the ruling "New Azerbaijan" party Ali Ahmadov said today.

"The Public Chamber held two meetings but they gave no result," he said. "What can one expect from the third meeting scheduled for May 6? The opposition can not find a suitable case. It deals with holding the rallies. They do not want to understand that the Azerbaijani society has turned its back on them for a long time."

He added that the opposition has not been operating actively for 20 years. It conducts meetings, gathers few people and repeats the same thing.

"Azerbaijan has been greatly changed for 20 years," he said. "But the opposition has not been changed. The same situation and participants were 20 years ago. The Azerbaijani society sees the benefits from the governmental policy. Therefore, it supports it. The opposition has no trust. If it had trust, it would be changed, improve its positions. They become weaker every day. A good example is their rallies. About 30-40 parties organize the rallies. About 1,000-1,500 people gather there. The majority of them are organization men and members of their families."
