Azerbaijani ruling party: Opposition leaders’ rivalry explained by their ambitions

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 30 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /

Azerbaijan's ruling party thinks that the rivalry between Musavat opposition party head Isa Gambar and chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli is based on their personal ambitions.

"The rivalry between Ali Kerimli and Isa Gambar, their statements to each other shows that they hate each other," deputy executive secretary of the ruling party New Azerbaijan, MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend today.

Gurbanli stressed that it does not matter for the ruling party who will be a candidate from the so-called opposition Public Chamber in the presidential elections.

"Even if Isa Gambar and Ali Kerimli nominate their candidatures together or separately, we will win the political competition," he added. "I do not see any politician who can be an alternative to President Aliyev. I think that the incumbent president will win the elections in 2013. "

Although the so-called Public Chamber decided not to discuss the issue of a single candidate, member of the Coordination Council of the Public Chamber Isa Gambar expressed a desire to participate in the presidential elections of 2013. This statement was ambiguously perceived by Musavat's major ally - Azerbaijani Popular Front Party.
