Baku, Azerbaijan, June 5

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

What is unacceptable for some countries, is considered by those countries themselves as appropriate for other states and nations, and they hold campaigns against those not following their instructions through non-governmental organizations, which play the role of the "fifth column", said the Azerbaijani president's aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov.

He made the remarks June 5 at a meeting with the heads of Azerbaijan's media outlets commenting on the words by the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Press Council Aflatun Amashov about the existence of offensive pages on social media.

Hasanov said the countries, which speak about freedom of speech, don't allow the existence of such pages themselves.

Hasanov said he'd recommend to issue a high award or a medal of Azerbaijan to organizations that put the country at the bottom of the freedom of speech lists, if anyone can find such offensive pages in the Western countries, which try to teach democracy to Azerbaijan.

He also noted that if it is the democracy instilled by the West, then Azerbaijani people are against such a democracy.

"Here the matter rests in double standards, but, unfortunately, what we are talking about is not taken into account by the organizations that shape international public opinion," said Hasanov.
