Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Azerbaijani Freedom of Speech Protection Fund has allocated finance to protect the imprisoned journalists. This decision was made at the meeting of Fund's Board on 15 April.
Five appeals received by the Fund, were discussed. A decision was made to allocate $1900, in general.
About $500 was allocated to editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper, Eynulla Fatullayev (as per the appeal of his father Emin Fatullayev).
Some $400 was allocated to the lawyers to protect imprisoned employees of Azadlyg newspaper, Mirza Sakit and Agil Khalil (according to appeal of Azadlig newspaper's editorial office).
About $200 was presented for the treatment of journalist of Yeni Musavat newspaper Shahveled Chobanoglu who got injured while performing his professional obligations. A decision was made to consider appeal of the employee of Reyting newspaper at the next meeting because presented documents were not in order.
The activity of the Fund is realized through financial support of Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation. The founders of the Fund are Union of Journalists Yeni Nesil, Azerbaijan Union of Journalists, Najaf Najafov Fund and League of Democratic Journalists.
