Azerbaijani ombudsman: Information sources should be prepared to work with media
Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 28 / Trend E.Ismayilov /
Information sources should be prepared to work with media, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova told journalists today.
"We must work not only with the recipients of information, journalists, but also with information sources. They should be willing to provide information under the law," she said.
The Azerbaijani Parliament adopted Law 'On the transfer of the Press Envoy's authority to the Human Rights Ombudsman" on the first reading in December 2010. The rules on consideration of complaints over the violation of Human Rights Ombudsman's right to receive the information are reflected in the draft law on amendments and additions to the Law of the Constitution "On the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan."
Six months left to the adoption of the law on second reading, and this time must be rationally used, Suleymanova said. A meeting has been arranged with media in this regard, she said.
The Azerbaijani Press Council opposes transferring the media powers to the ombudsman.
