Amendments to the law On the protection of historical and cultural monuments are brought up for discussion at a meeting of the Committee on Science and Education of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on Friday.
Under the changes, the exclusion of the monument from the approved list will be conducted by the relevant executive authority on a proposal from the relevant executive authority given the opinion of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, chairman of the committee Shamsaddin Hajiyev said.
Changes to the bill came with the signature of the President of Azerbaijan, Hajiyev said.
He noted that the list of items that are considered as monuments will be agreed with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
"There are monuments that do not have much significance, and they need to be torn down. Changes to the law will create the conditions to resolve the problems encountered during the process," Hajiyev said.
